Getting my sinigang fix and more at Sentro 1771
Truthfully, Filipino food isn't something I look for. Don't get me wrong, it's just that we always have it at home, so I don't crave for it as much as I do other cuisines. But when Spanky invited us for lunch at Sentro 1771, my eyes sparkled with joy. I'm not even kidding. For me, Sentro 1771 means one thing, and that's CORNED BEEF SINIGANG.
I grew up absolutely obsessed with the sour broth and remember eating up to 4 cups of rice in one meal just because of it. Sentro 1771's sinigang is the best I've tried (outside of my mom's, of course :P) Honestly, I don't remember what else I tried from them since I haven't been back for years, so I took lunch as an opportunity to get reacquainted with the Filipino restaurant.
Sentro 1771 has been on the forefront in creating a modern Filipino dining experience. Using carefully selected ingredients for a well-curated menu, the restaurant highlights its deep understanding of various local dishes. Although also known for successfully reinventing traditional favorites, the restaurant has consistently preserved the taste and flavor that diners have patronized for years. From the beautiful interiors, warm lighting, to the excellent food and service, the restaurant consistently imbibes a sophisticated feel that’s perfect for hearty meals.
For starters, we had the Macau Chorizo and Cheese Tidbits. These are mini spring rolls filled with Macau chorizo, shallots, and keso de bola perfect for sharing.
For the drinks, I went for good ol' Sago't Gulaman. It's been a while since I last had some, so I made sure to order it here. I'm glad I did, because their version is just like the ones I used to have when I was young. It was so good, in fact, that I had two glasses of it (I had to stop myself from getting a third. Hehe)
Next is the Shrimp Cracker Salad, one of the newer dishes at Sentro 1771. It's nothing I've ever had before - shrimps and singkamas flavored with lemongrass, lime, cilantro, and garlic in lime mayo on shredded lettuce and kropek on the side.
If you're in it for the meat, order the Garlic Steak featuring marinated slices of beef top blade topped with garlic butter. I personally prefer more garlic in mine, but no biggie. The Boneless Crispy Trotter also come highly recommended as the skin is crunchy and the meat, flavorful.
Bangus Pandan, anyone? I honestly wasn't able to try this since I mostly went for the Rated GG, but I heard this one had miso-tomato-malunggay stuffing, so maybe it's worth a shot?
The Rated GG though deserves its spot as one of Sentro's Signature Dishes because it's hella yum! Garlic oil and browned garlic is what these galunggong fillets are all about!

When they said Seafood Laing, they weren't kidding! Though I didn't get to partake in the seafood, the laing itself was really good. I had two servings of this and masarap talaga siya! If you want yours without the seafood, they do have regular laing on the menu as well.
Make way for my favorite Sinigang na Corned Beef! It's still as good as I remember. It's Sentro's specialty, so you can't come here and not order this. The best part? You get to customize and adjust the sourness of the broth! My sister and I usually add extra tamarind powder in ours, so if you're planning to share with us, get ready for some asim moments!
And as usual, we drowned ourselves in desserts! Sentro's famous Coffee Pie, Keso Flan, and Fried Suman with Mangoes!
I was surprised at how good the suman was, I mean I didn't even care for the mangoes at that point. The suman itself was flavorful enough. Ang saraaaaap.
