Main Street, Kapitolyo

Trying out Main Street's newest dishes!

Just last week, my friends and I headed over to Kapitolyo to try out Main Street's newest dishes. The restaurant serves "Canadian comfort food" but to be honest, I'm not really sure how it differs from American food especially since most of the dishes we had were burgers. I'm assuming it's things like poutine that makes it Canadian.. or maybe all the bacon? Anyhoo, let's get on to the food.
Salads have never been a priority when I go out to eat, but Main Street's Cajun Spiced Prawn Salad (P280) is making me think twice about the leafy greens.
This one has mixed greens, Cajun spiced grilled prawns, orange tarragon vinaigrette, orange segments, sliced tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and white wine Dijon mustard vinaigrette. I made sure to get a bit of everything in one bite! The prawns tasted fresh too, so that's always a plus.

Main Street's pretty big on poutine, offering five different kinds from Traditional, Chicken, Bacon, Smoked Pulled Pork, and Supreme. Naturally, we went with the Supreme (P290). I mean, who wouldn't want a plate of fries with steak in it, right?
Unfortunately, I only had a piece of this since everyone else gobbled it up in a snap. It's no surprise since the combination of cumin spiced flank steak strips, cheese sauce, tomato salsa, spring onions, shredded lettuce, and cilantro creme goes really well together. Two thumbs up for this!
As I mentioned earlier, they also offer burgers on their menu. Here's a quick look at each of them:

Classic Cheeseburger (P260)
sesame bun, romaine lettuce, sliced tomatoes, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, ketchup, mustard, and pickles

Caramelized and Bleu (P290)
sesame bun, arugula, bleu cheese, caramelized onions, garlic, mayonnaise

Barbecue (P300)
sesame bun, fried onion ring, cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, barbecue sauce

Double Bacon (P310)
sesame bun, house made bacon jam, applewood smoked bacon, sliced tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, arugula
The burgers are a good solo size, but since I'm not a huge fan of burgers in general, I just decided to skip these.

Their Beef Shin Ragu (P360) is a surprisingly light dish made up of slow braised beef shin in tomato sauce tossed in linguini noodles and topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese.
It's definitely one of the dishes I highly recommend trying at Main Street.

But if you want to know my ultimate favorite, it's their Chicken Fingers (P200 + P65 for a side of fries). I know, I know, you're probably wondering what's so special about chicken fingers. Well, in this case, it's the dip that makes the dish. I swear, their honey mustard dip goes with everything!! P.S. Their panko breaded chicken breast fillet strips kind of taste like nuggets too. :D
Pizza is also something I'd recommend here - their Barbecue Chicken (P300), according to my friends, tastes better than CPK's, so that's saying a lot.
Their Tomato Braised Seafood Stew (P350) is a similar dish to Bouillabaisse - with prawns, mussels, fish and vegetables, braised in an aromatic tomato stew served with garlic bread or plain rice. I suggest having it with garlic bread for some added flavor.
Last but not the least is their Steak and Fries - a steal for Php 380!
Here you get strips of grilled Kitayama flank steak, hand-cut fries, charred scallion, and garlic butter. The steak alone is already well-seasoned, but adding the garlic butter brings it up a notch higher. The boys were pretty happy with this one, that's for sure.
Onto dessert! Since our group consisted of more girls than guys, we decided to try out all three of Main Street's dessert offerings!

Blueberry Cheesecake (P190)
classic New York style cheesecake served with blueberry compote

Fudge Brownie a la Mode (P190)
gooey brownies topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce

Apple Crumble (P200)
sliced apples roasted in butter, honey, and cinnamon. Baked with a crumble crust and topped with crushed graham crackers and vanilla ice cream
For dessert, my favorite is the Fudge Brownie followed by the Blueberry Cheesecake then the Apple Crumble. I'm a sucker for freshly-baked brownies served a la mode, though I kind of wish it came with more ice cream. The Blueberry Cheesecake is perfect as is - the creamy texture and the generous serving of blueberries.
