We were already starving when we arrived at Nadai Fujisoba, so upon seeing the menu, I was really disappointed that the names were in Japanese and there weren't really any descriptions as to what the dish is about. I did understand a few items, like ebi is shrimp and yasai meant vegetable, but other than that, I was pretty lost. I had to call a server fo help in identifying what was what. In the end, I decided to go for the Niku Fuji Soba (P260) which contains simmered beef, poached egg, shallots, and nori.
Nadai Fujisoba actually specializes in soba, the thin buckwheat noodles you see below. And since I love cold soba, I really enjoyed this one too. I honestly couldn't care less if they took out the beef, I'm fine with just the noodles, the soup, and of course, the egg.
Of course the beef adds some flavor to it too, but really, the star here is the noodles and soup. All their hot bowls have the same bonito-based broth - it's a salty soup made from bonito flakes or dried smoked tuna. So really, when you're picking from the menu, you're really just deciding the following: the type of noodle and the topping.
Tim went with what I believe is the Niku Fuji's spicy counterpart, the Aka Fuji Soba (P260). Aka in Japanese for red, so I guess that's about right?
I also found that adding some of their spicy sesame oil makes the meal more enjoyable.
The dishes we ordered are just P260 pesos each, so yeah, I think it's pretty affordable considering what you're getting. We visited the one in SM North Edsa, and we were so happy that they allow customers to order gyoza from the restaurant beside them - Osaka Ohsho. So yeah, Nadai is definitely worth visiting if you're looking for a no frills soba place. Visit them at G/F The Block, SM City North EDSA, Quezon City.
