Welcomed another weeknight with a pampering session by Urban Rub Gastro Spa!
Tim and I enjoy getting massages. In fact, we regularly to go to spas and it's not just because it's relaxing, but because we actually need it. My back is always sore for some reason, while Tim's entire body hurts from all his training in the gym.
Unfortunately, it's hard to find a spa that's consistent with the service. I mean, each therapist has a different technique and different pressure levels, so you're not guaranteed that the experience you've had before will be the same on your next visit.

So when I discovered Urban Rub Gastro Spa located in San Juan, I immediately wanted to pay them a visit.
I mean, just look at their massages. Who wouldn't want to try services like Harlem Harmony, Fresno Fix, Boston Balance, and Riverdale Ritual? And the best part is, they're actually affordable!

We headed over to Urban Rub Gastro Spa on a rainy Tuesday evening and availed of their two-hour massage sessions. Tim went with the Boston Balance, which is more of a hard hagod (rubbing) massage using thermal oil, while I got the Riverdale Ritual, a combination of all their massage offerings.
To give you an idea:
Harlem Harmony - Swedish with Filipino hilot
Preston Pressure - Accupressure; Shiatsu with reflexology
Fresno Fix - basically Harlem Harmony and Preston Pressure combined. Only the back gets the oil.
Ranong Ritual - Thai massage with stretching. Makes use of legs and knees
All their massages come with your choice of oil, except for the Boston Balance which again, makes use of their thermal oil. Their oils change once in a while, but at the time of our visit, they were offering the following: Sweet Blossoms, Moroccan Argan, Sweet Olive, White Tea, and Coffee.
I ended up picking the Moroccan Argan, though the White Tea was close second.
Soon, we were led upstairs for the service. While I was changing, it suddenly dawned on me that this is the only spa I've encountered that doesn't have a specific area for washing the clients' feet. It was only after the massage when I found out from the owner Mikha that you may ask for a hot towel to clean your feet with. I really wish they had told us prior to the massage, since I came from work and had been wearing sandals the entire day.
The actual massage was amazing though. Whenever I get a massage, I always tell the therapist that I want hard pressure, and Jazz (my therapist) really delivered. The pressure was consistent all throughout the massage, which I really, really enjoyed! The Riverdale Ritual started off as a dry massage, then after some stretching, moved onto the hagod part. I actually dozed off a couple of times, which doesn't happen very often, since I usually have to adjust the massage pressure with the therapist.
Tim's massage, the Boston Balance, was more about the pressure points and stretching after every area. It was perfect for him since his back and legs were still sore from going to the gym, and the massage really helped him release muscle tension.
After our massage, we headed downstairs to their restaurant. This is another thing that's unique about Urban Rub Gastro Spa - they actually offer you a bowl of congee (weekdays) or noodle soup (weekends) after your service. You don't have to come at a certain time or date, this applies all day every day.
Aside from that, they also offer ala carte, so you can just come here to eat if you don't feel like getting any service done. They have T-bone steaks, wraps, pork belly, and more on the menu!
As you can see, Urban Rub Gastro Spa is not your typical spa. They don't just offer regular massages and body scrubs. They really want to change the game in the spa industry, so aside from having a restaurant, they're also offering Liposolve and beauty drip therapies to their clients.
Liposolve is a cosmetic treatment designed to tighten loose, or sagging skin in the arms, stomach, back, thighs and legs without an incision or recovery time. Heated energy source and low frequency ultrasound waves designed to uniformly heat the dermis (inner layer of skin) and break down stubborn fats, this is designed to tighten deeper layers of skin while helping initiate the production of new collagen and helping with the removal of stretch marks and unwanted fats and cellulites. Making it easier for you to lose those unwanted bulges, their new two-step system makes it a lot faster and painless to remove cellulites and fats. Prices start for as low as P499 per session.
Their beauty drip treatments aren't just for whitening, but it's also good for the health. According to Mikha, whenever we take vitamins orally, our system only absorbs 30% of it. But with the beauty drip, you get 100% of the vitamins in the drip itself. Sure, it's a bit pricey, but it's a good way to boost the vitamins in your body, especially if you're feeling weak and stressed out.
Tim and I really enjoyed our visit at Urban Rub Gastro Spa, so we'll probably be back real soon! :)
Maybe we'll come back during the weekend so we can taste their noodle soup too! Haha! :)
