The Plaza launches their BBQ catering menus perfect for outdoor events, backyard and pool parties!
Summer's fast approaching and what better way to celebrate it than with a good ol' traditional BBQ party! Recently, I attended the launch of The Plaza's BBQ catering menus which featured The Plaza’s resident grill master, Raymund A. Reyes, a.k.a. Ski Ray, who also happens to be the Chief Finance Officer of The Plaza.
Ski Ray's signature BBQ items
Norwegian Salmon (Done Four-Ways: Dijon mustard, Thai sauce, salmon spice and dill salt)
Cajun Beer Can Chicken
Baby Back Ribs (best with Ski Ray's BBQ and Boozy BBQ sauces!)
All about The Plaza
For those who aren't familiar with The Plaza, here's a quick history. It all began in 1935 when Engracia Cruz Reyes, fondly known as Aling Asiang, founded the Aristocrat Restaurant. Thirty years later, her son Jose Cruz Reyes and his wife Imelda Albano established The Plaza catering as well as developed (and perfected) The Plaza Premium Baked Ham together with The Plaza’s Swedish Master Chef Gosta Pettersson. Years later, her granddaughter Millie brought the special occasion ham from distinguished banquet halls to the malls, making it more available and accessible to the public.
Today, it is already the fourth generation - Aling Asiang's great granddaughter Karla - that manages The Plaza Premium Baked Ham kiosks and stores all over Manila.
The Plaza continues to cater private occasions and corporate events. In addition to servicing the exclusive Wack-Wack Golf & Country Club, The Plaza is one of only five accredited caterers at the SMX Convention Center beside the SM Mall of Asia Complex. It also services other venues such as One Esplanade, NBC Tent, Rockwell Tent, Le Pavilion, Coconut Palace, to name a few.
Other items prepared by The Plaza are their mini cream cheese burgers, assorted sausages with onions and peppers, and the newest addition to their BBQ line, the smoked beef rib served with a gravy or with SkiRay’s Boozy BBQ sauce. Side dishes include Mexican elote salad, roasted garlic and cheddar mashed potatoes, baked beans, yellow rice and more.
You also have the option to add in a live mac & cheese station, or a fajita and taco station as well as other signature dishes by The Plaza such as The Plaza Premium Baked Ham, Roast Angus Corned Beef, New York-style Hot Pastrami and much more.

For dessert, we had the Apple Compote with crumble on top and The Plaza’s designer brownie with a layer of cream cheese and toasted marshmallows. There also was an ice cream station by FIC featuring their frozen custard line. Available flavors were dark chocolate truffle, espresso and mantecado. Refreshing iced tea slushies were provided by Swizzle Mobile Bar and for the adults, strawberry basil margarita slushies.

Thoughts on The Plaza BBQ
I personally love the whole concept of an outdoor BBQ party. It has a more laid back feel compared to regular catered events; though when you think about it, it's much harder to do on your own since BBQ parties require huge open spaces and a lot of grilling time. That's why I am amazed at how The Plaza seamlessly pulled everything off at the launch. And the food was great, too! I especially enjoyed the salmon, assorted sausages, smoked beef rib, and of course, their signature premium baked ham! The desserts were the bomb too - both the apple compote and cream cheese brownies were really good and went so well with FIC's frozen custard flavors! And finally, the refreshing slushies from Swizzle which I think are perfect for warm summer days here in Manila!
Thank you so much to The Plaza, Tito Ray, Tita Millie, and Karla for the invite!
