Hakata Ton-Ichi, Top of the Glo

There's a new ramen place on the block that you have to check out!!

Delicious and affordable - these are the two words that first come to mind when I think about Hakata Ton-Ichi. Other ramen joints need to watch their backs with this one! The quality/flavor of their broth may not be exactly the same, but it's definitely close!
Earlier this month, Hakata Ton-Ichi opened its first two branches - one at Top of the Glo and the other in SM North Towers. Other brands would think twice about starting off that strong, but not Hakata Ton-Ichi. Nope. They know what they're offering is good and they seem to have a grasp of the market too.

Tim and I went to visit their Glorietta branch for early lunch one time. Here's how it looks:
Super fun and colorful, right? I'm glad I was able to snap these photos before people started coming in for lunch. And would you believe, they came in big groups too! Hmm I guess it's not really surprising since the food tastes great and budget-friendly as well!

What Tim ordered:
Tim went for the Hakata King's Set. For Php 500, you get your choice of ramen, Hakata fried rice, salad or sushi, a side dish (karaage or gyoza), mixed fruits, and iced tea. Not bad. Not bad at all. You definitely get your money's worth since this meal can easily be shared by two people. I mean, ramen na, rice pa??

But if you want to order the ramen on its own, the Ton-ichi Ramen is Php 180. It kind of reminds me of my default order at a certain ramen chain. But at Hakata Ton-ichi, you can't adjust the richness or the spice level and things like that. So I guess that's the main difference? If you're super particular with the flavor of your broth and the doneness of your noodles, this might not be the place for you. Still, it's great value at Php 180. Hakata Ton-ichi also has a Red Ramen, Black Ramen, and Miso-ichi Ramen, all priced at Php 220.

What I ordered:
I, on the other hand, went for the Curry Rice. It seems like every time I see curry on the menu, I have to have it. This time, I went with their Cheeseburg Curry Rice which is basically their hamburger pork patty with creamy cheese sauce over rice and their special Japanese curry sauce. They also have a Hamburg Curry Rice (no cheese), Chicken Katsu Curry Rice, Pork Katsu, and Ebi Katsu Curry Rice. The prices for these range from Php 260 to Php 290.

"There's nothing like a hot bowl of ramen after a hard day's labor."

Hakata Ton-ichi si a ramen shop for working class folks who long for comfort after a grueling day. Unlike other ramen chains that charge for a premium for their best bowl, we serve the same rich flavors at an affordable price. Our aim is to serve the city's hard workers with great-tasting ramen not as a rare luxury but a necessary comfort.

Visit Hakata Ton-ichi at Japantown, Top of the Glo, Glorietta 1, Ayala Center, Glorietta Complex, Makati City or at the Second Floor, North Towers, SM City North EDSA, Bago Bantay, Quezon City.
