Chibo Okonomiyaki, S Maison

Level up your Japanese dining experience at Chibo Okonomiyaki!

If you ask me what my favorite cuisine is, it's a toss up between Italian and Japanese. I grew up eating spaghetti (I sometimes ate it with rice), while my love for Japanese cuisine began when I got a taste of sushi rolls (haha I love my carbs, guys!) Nowadays, you can find a Japanese restaurant in every corner, but let's face it, they're not all the same. You really have to look for ones that offer quality and authentic dishes if you really want a taste of Japan here in the Philippines.
Chibo Okonomiyaki
One of my first dining experiences at S Maison was at Chibo Okonomiyaki. Apparently, it has been around since 1973 in Sennichimae, Osaka - a district famous for gourmet eateries. Unfortunately, I have never been to Osaka, so it was pretty exciting for me to be able to eat at a real Japanese okonomiyaki place, especially one that has been around for so long already!

Chibo Okonomiyaki was the first to introduce the fusion of okonomiyaki and teppanyaki more than 30 years ago. To date, it continues to be one of the most successful okonomiyaki restaurants in Japan.

During our visit to Chibo Okonomiyaki, we not only got to try their okonomiyaki specialties, but their teppanyaki as well. We watched the chefs cook the dishes right in front of us. The mouthwatering smell made us want to grab the food and shove it into our mouths right away! But of course, as with every meal spent with foodie friends, photos come first.

For those who have yet to try an okonomiyaki or have no idea what it is, it is a Japanese-savoury pancake with main ingredients of dough, cabbage, tempura bits, spring onions, red ginger, varied with fillings such as meat, seafood and vegetables topped with special sauce, mayonnaise, ground dried seaweed, and fish flakes.
Chibo Okonomiyaki
To be honest, I always thought there was only one kind of okonomiyaki, but Chibo shows us that there are actually many kinds to choose from. So many possibilities, so little tummy space!

First up is the Gyoza Teppan (P168).
Chibo Okonomiyaki
It's definitely not the gyoza I'm used to - I prefer mine pan-fried and meatier, but this one was still pretty good. Think of it as the flatter, crispier sister of the pan-fried gyoza. Haha!

Next, we had the U.S. Beef Tenderloin Steak (P988/120g).
Chibo Okonomiyaki
It almost melts in your mouth - definitely high grade premium meat right here. No sauce needed!

Another one of their bestsellers is the U.S. Angus Beef Short Rib (P788/120g).
Chibo Okonomiyaki
Best enjoyed with rice as this one is oozing with flavor!

For their seafood teppanyaki, they recommended the Assorted Seafood (P688).
Chibo Okonomiyaki
It's a plate of prawn, scallops, salmon, and squid with a side of vegetables. It's every seafood lovers dream, all in one plate!

Now if you want noodles with your meal, go for the Buta Yakisoba (P238).
Chibo Okonomiyaki
It comes with shrimp, pork, and squid and is just one of the many yakisoba options at Chibo.

Finally, onto the okonomiyaki!
Chibo Okonomiyaki
Go for their classic Butatama Okonomiyaki (P288) which is all about pork.
Chibo Okonomiyaki
Or the signature Chibo Okonomiyaki (P488) which has prawn, scallops, beef, and pork in it!

For dessert, go for the Shirayukihime (P588).
Chibo Okonomiyaki
It's their extra soft textured okonomiyaki with prawn, bacon, pork, tomato, avocado, and cheese topped with meringue. It's a dessert like no other.
Chibo Okonomiyaki
Each okonomiyaki serving is good to share, so bring your friends and family and enjoy the taste of Osaka's Okonomiyaki at Chibo!
Chibo Okonomiyaki
Chibo Okonomiyaki is located at Level 2, S Maison, Conrad Manila, Seaside Boulevard corner Coral Way, Mall of Asia Complex (MOA), Pasay City.
