More than just fried chicken ;)
A little late in the Bad Bird game, but still happy to have been able to try their famous Umami Fried Chicken at their Megamall store last month!
Influenced by Japan’s extensive use of umami: miso, dashi, and katsuoboshi, we fabricated our very own seasoning from the ground up. Bad Bird is the result of painstaking experimentation and our relentless obsession to create the perfect chicken.
When I came to Bad Bird, I didn't expect that I would love the food, because I'm not a huge fan of chicken. I mean, I don't hate it, but I'm not partial to it either. I don't crave for it the way I crave for pizza or Japanese food.
With that said, my thoughts on Bad Bird's chicken is that it's not bad at all! In fact, I love that it packs a lot of flavor (being umami and all) and how the chicken meat is both tender and juicy! Their chicken comes in three levels of spice - safe, spicy, and chemical. Bad Bird offers three different fried chicken plates - all with two pieces of chicken, but various side dishes. I got to try both the safe and spicy; I'll reserve the chemical for my next visit.

Waffle Plate (P360)

Corn & Coleslaw Plate (P390)

Dirty Rice Plate (P390)
fried rice with bacon, chicken liver, tamago, bonito and Kimchi
Aside from these, Bad Bird also has a pretty good line up of small plates available - get one for Php 70 or three for only Php 180! We tried the Kimchi, Dashi Watercress, Tamago Cup, Scallion Pancake, Eggplant Agedashi, and Mashed Sweet Potato.
I especially enjoyed the Dashi Watercress and Eggplant Agedashi!
But if bigger, more filling bites are what you look for, try their BB Corn, Chicken Nuggets, Sweet Potato Waffles, or Hush Puppies (below).
Or you know, you can always go with more meat.

It started off kind of salty for me, so I'm glad they offer their grilled meats with two sauces - my favorites were the Mustard BBQ and Ginger :)

Cap off the night with their Oolong Iced Tea for a refreshing end to your meal!
I definitely wouldn't mind paying Bad Bird another visit in the future. Umami fried chicken for the win!
