Finally gotten around to testing out my 50mm lens at Dohtonbori.
As expected, the place was packed. We had to wait a while for a table, but we didn't really mind since we weren't all that hungry yet. Some photos in this set were taken on my Powershot N since I'm still getting the hang of my 50mm!
Kimchi and Pork (P220)
pork, kimchi, cabbage, sesame oil, spring onion
Since we both love kimchi, we figured we'd order this instead of the Kalbi Yakiniku. We had to choose since we had already ordered two other items, and we wouldn't be able to finish everything if we added another.
Tim cooked while I took pictures. Hehe
So it turns out, 50mm isn't really the best lens to use for food shots. Or maybe that's just me.
Maybe there has to be a perfect distance between you and the item you're capturing? Maybe? I like how the shot below turned out though.
Deluxe Okonomiyaki (P360)
beef, chicken, pork, scallop, squid, octopus, tempura bits, red pickled ginger, spring onion, egg, cabbage, okonomiyaki paste
The server helped us cook this one, though there's a step by step guide available, should you wish to cook it on your own.
It took 15 minutes to cook, five minutes per side then another five to finish. Then cover it with okonomiyaki sauce, Japanese mayonnaise, ao nori, and bonito powder!
If we had cooked this on our own, it
Omelette Yakisoba (P290)
pork, carrots, green bell pepper, red picked ginger, bean sprouts, cabbage, noodles
By this time, we've just realized that everything we ordered contains egg. Haha!
Tastes better with lots of sauce and mayonnaise, and maybe some salt, too, for the noodles. We ate half of this and brought the rest home.
Would I eat here again? Yes I would! Sooner rather than later ;)
If you're looking for a quiet place to eat at, I wouldn't recommend it, since there's almost always someone at your table cooking or refilling your glass, which just means the service is great. But yeah, it's not a place I'd go to to be "alone" with my significant other. Overall, the food was amazing, especially the okonomiyaki.
Dohtonbori is located at 8 Missouri Street, Northeast Greenhills, San Juan City.
