Since Kathleen is leaving for Australia soon, she requested we eat somewhere she hasn't tried yet
- enter Cafe Shibuya.
I first encountered Cafe Shibuya at UP Town Center, and remember really loving the whole environment and the food. In Trinoma, they only have a stall, but at least they made an effort to make it their own. It is nicely decorated, my only problem is that it was really hot there - probably because of all the cooking they do? Not really sure, but we didn't let that bother us so much.
I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana with Pesto Pasta (P255)
seasoned breaded chicken baked with housemade tomato sauce and topped with mozzarella and parmesan cheese, served with a side of corn salsa
I know it may look good, but it's not all that special. The chicken was bland, I had to put salt over it just to get some flavor. The tomato sauce and mozzarella didn't help much either. Good thing I ordered the parmigiana with the pasta rather than just plain rice, or I might have hated the dish more.
Kathleen tried the Crispy Pork Belly with Kimchi Rice (P295).
The sweet and salty flavor of the deep fried pork belly perfectly complements their spicy kimchi rice. Gaah, I wanted to keep stealing off of Kathleen's plate! It was that good! Total opposite of my bland parmigiana!
Mitch got the Mentaiko (P265), as per ate's recommendation.
Another oil-based pasta dish. Their Mentaiko is a Japanese-Italian fusion pairing cod roe with olive oil. According to Mitchelle, it was just okay.
For dessert, we shared a regular serving of their Mango Caramel Dessert Toast (P235)
diced mangoes served on top of a crumbly graham cracker crust and vanilla cream sauce. served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce
I've had this before, and I still love it! Will try the Sans Rival version next time! :)
