Being healthy isn't just about losing weight. It's eating well and exercising regularly. On a deeper level, I think it is the combination of physical, emotional, and mental well-being that make up the word "healthy." With that, let me share with you my 8 tips to having good health:
1. Exercise.
This is something I've been telling myself for years that I need to do regularly. But since I work six days a week, I don't have a whole lot of free time to do so. To be honest, I've never been the go-to-the-gym kinda gal; I've tried a couple of stuff - zumba, boxing, jogging, badminton, soccer - but maybe I haven't found the one yet? Haha. If you're struggling to find the perfect workout/exercise routine like I am, why not take daily walks instead? For now, at least. It's still better than nothing. ;)
2. Sleep 7 hours per night.
Remember when you were still a kid, you wanted to play all day and all night long? It wasn't okay then, and it still isn't now. Sleep plays such a vital role in our lives. "The way you feel while you're awake depends in part on what happens while you're sleeping. During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health. In children and teens, sleep also helps support growth and development."
Did you know that sleep is also involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels? "Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke." Now that we're older, we're more susceptible to getting these diseases,. So don't worry about getting called a Tita, if it means you'll be in great shape years down the road. Still not convinced? 3. Never skip breakfast.
And I mean never. It is what helps start your day. Without it, you may feel tired throughout the day. You won't be as productive or as efficient as you normally can be. People who usually skip breakfast eat more during other meals, therefore making weight loss more difficult. It is also better to take smaller, more frequent meals than eating fewer, larger meals.
4. Eat fruits and vegetables.
This is so grade school, but we all know this is true. Time and time again, we've been told how important having these two food groups in our system are. Fruits and vegetables provide many nutrients that we cannot get anywhere else. It can also reduce the risk of several diseases including stroke, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and perhaps some forms of cancer.
5. Say no to carbonated drinks
They have no nutritional value and are high in sugar and calories. So why even bother?
6. Drink lots of water instead
We've always been told to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. But do we know why? I did some research and I found out that it helps in digestion and constipation, flushes out toxins, and aids in weight loss among others.
7. Take your vitamins.
They were created for a reason. I would recommend taking multi-vitamins like Enervon (or for the physically active, Enervon Activ). These not only help increase energy and enhance the immune system, but they also ensure that all bases are covered (rather than taking just vitamin C or B, for example). They're not called "multi-vitamins" for nothing. ;)
8. Manage your stress.
Yep. In this fast-paced world we live in, we often find ourselves multi-tasking, usually doing more than what we can handle. So, it is important to take mini breaks during the day to help manage the stress. Never compromise your health for your job or money. I'd recommend going on short out of town trips during the weekends just to get away from it all, as well.
