Headed over to My Dream Nail Spa along Visayas Avenue to try the latest nail craze! Can you guess what it is? :)
It's none other than gel polish! It has been three weeks since my visit at My Dream Nail Spa, but my nails still look great (well, they've grown longer, but the polished part remains intact). Amazing, right? Now I understand why everyone's been talking about it!
Though the price for gel polish is relatively higher than regular/imported polish like Orly, China Glaze, Misa, OPI, etc., I wouldn't mind paying a premium if it means having pretty nails for much, much longer.
We started off with their signature hand and foot spa which is pretty relaxing after a long day of work.
I love how they make such an effort to keeping everything neat and organized. Aren't those small containers for the soap, cream, and exfoliating scrub just the cutest? They even have buckets beside every seat so you don't have to put your rings, bracelets or watches inside your bags and risk scratching/losing them.
I was pleasantly surprised when one of the girls asked if I wanted some tea; not a lot of nail spas offer refreshments, so I thought this was worth noting. :)
After soaking and scrubbing/exfoliating, they applied callous remover on the feet and wrapped it in cling wrap so the skin can absorb the cream better. The same goes for the hand spa, except they replace the callous remover with Cuccio Lyte Naturale Ultra-Sheer Body Butter in Pomegranate and Acai. Doesn't that sound good? It smells even better! :)
My Dream Nail Spa takes an extra step by adding electric mittens and boots to the service. It opens up the pores to allow more moisture from lotions/creams to enter your skin, making it softer.
As if I wasn't relaxed enough, they treated me to an amazing foot massage, c/o Ms. Gloria. She definitely knew what she was doing and even suggested that I get my feet checked when I told her how my ankle often makes cracking noises when I move it around (and how I sometimes have a hard time sleeping because of it).
Another thing I admire about them is they have their own sterilizer to ensure their tools are always clean.
According to their operations manager Ms. Jacqui Yang, sanitation is one of their top priorities, along with making sure their nail technicians are well-trained and their clients, comfortable. She said that nail spas often focus too much on one thing that they forget that there are other important factors as well - a fact that led them to open My Dream Nail Spa. Well, so far, so good. They've pretty much covered everything I look for in a nail spa.
Here are some swatches of their Cuccio gel polish. The reason why it stays for a longer period of time is because it is comprised of five steps (the prep, fuse/primer, base, polish, and top coat) which you each dry off under ultraviolet light.
I used two types of polish that's why you see six bottles. Each step takes 30 to 120 seconds and once you take your hand out of the machine, you're done! With gel polish, you no longer have to wait for your nails to dry. Convenient, no? :)
I heard removing the polish takes a while, but that's a problem for another day. :P
Aside from gel polish, I also got to try nail stamping!
For 10 pesos, you can have any of the designs above stamped on your nail; it's a great alternative for nail art.
I had a butterfly stamped on two fingers and kept the rest of my nails as is. If you want to remove the stamp on top of your gel polish, you can use acetone to do so. It won't ruin your gel-polished nails, I promise! :)
For those who want to feel even more glamorous, you can try out the most expensive nail polish in the world, Azature. Their lower-priced nail polish contains a real black diamond in every bottle. How luxurious can nails get?
