Jipan Cafe & Bakeshop, UP Town Center

My first time at JiPan, UP Town Center!

I've seen JiPan in malls many times before, but I've never bothered to go inside since I always saw it as a bakeshop. I thought all they sold were pastries, but apparently, they have a wide menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, sushi, pasta, and dessert! I'm glad Zomato sent me an invite to their branch in UP Town Center as it helped me learn more about the brand and its offerings.
We sampled a bunch of their bestsellers starting with their pastries.

Okonomiyaki Roll

A savory two-in-one treat for okonomiyaki fans looking for something quick and easy while on the go! It has sausage, katsuobushi (dried fish cabbage), nori power, and bennishoga (red ginger).

Takoyaki Bun

If you're a fan of takoyaki, this one's worth a shot. It's fluffy and topped with everything you usually see on top of the Japanese snack!

Pork Floss Roll

There's just something about pork floss that I love - whether paired with bread or eaten on its own, it's really good to have any day. JiPan's version has a bit of a twist to it since they've wrapped it in sesame seeds and nori.

Seafood Bun

You're in for a surprise with this one. I know it doesn't look much but this one's actually filled with shrimp and crabstick.

Kouign Amann

A 150-year old butter pastry much like a croissant except this one has extra sugar and extra butter in it. Best paired with coffee!

Hokkaido Almond Cream Bun

This one was my favorite among the bunch. The outer texture reminded me of Tim Ho Wan's baked buns that are crispy and crunchy and sweet. Overall, it's really just a fluffy sugary, milky bun.

Spicy Tuna Salad (P340)

I know I said this is a salad, but I'm gonna be honest here and tell you guys that I did not touch any of the fresh lettuce. All I did was steal pieces of tuna sashimi. Haha! I love that they mixed it with tempura bits and lots of spicy kewpie dressing. It's so simple yet so good!

Dynamite Roll (P425)

Another favorite is their Dynamite Roll. This one is a mix of ebi tempura, kani, tamago, cucumber, crunchy tempura bits, and kewpie sauce. It's a bit pricey compared to maki rolls in other restaurants, but to be honest, it's worth it. Each piece is HUGE! I wish I got to take a photo of it on chopsticks so you have an idea, but I don't, so just go there (order it) and see for yourself.

Seafood Okonomiyaki (P260)
This one's your usual Japanese savory pancake with squid, shredded cabbage, bacon, and okonomiyaki sauce. But what I really liked was their Beef Yakisoba Okonomiyaki.

Beef Yakisoba Okonomiyaki (P310)

I found that this one has more flavor to it, and it's more unique since it's not your traditional okonomiyaki. There's yakisoba noodles in it (along with beef and vegetables) and of course, still finished off with some okonomiyaki sauce. It's like a meal on its own already.

Bananas Foster JiPan Perdu (P230)

We finished off our visit with dessert - their signature thick toast cubed and soaked in custard and served golden brown with a delicious caramel banana sauce. I swear I couldn't stop eating this one. The caramel banana sauce made the soft milky/creamy toast taste like banana-cue. Combine that with some vanilla ice cream and you have one of the best desserts ever!! I have never tried anything like this and will certainly come back to JiPan for this one! Two thumbs up for this!!

JiPan Cafe & Bakeshop has branches in UP Town Center, Glorietta 4, Estancia Mall, and Addition Hills.
