Sunday brunch with my girls!
Last month, my friends and I spent an entire afternoon catching up at Mireio, Raffles Makati. There, we enjoyed a weekend in Provence with their numerous appetizers and main course selections which includes a dessert and cheese buffet for Php1,980.
High above the city, Raffles Makati presents Mirèio, a Provencal-inspired brasserie dining experience unique to Manila. Pronounced "mee-reyo", the refreshingly new dining destination takes its cue from the rich traditions of the French countryside with cuisine that is sun-drenched and created around the seasons, born of traditional French culinary techniques, and exuberant Mediterranean influences.
Staying true to the Raffles tradition of honouring great writers, Mirèio is named after the Nobel prize-winning poem by Frederic Mistral that tells the tale of young love and devotion through a journey of the famed countryside. Monsieur Mistral's own love letter to Provence. This love for Provence is prevalent not only in the cuisine, but also in the restaurant's art and interiors.
I highly recommend Mireio for a fancy ladies' brunch or perhaps a romantic afternoon with your significant other. I wouldn't mind going back; in fact, I could probably stay here all day.
Aside from the beautiful atmosphere that Raffles has created for Mireio, the food itself is divine!
Chef de Cuisine Nicolas Cegretin, himself a son of Provence, has created an exquisite menu selection that is all at once nostalgic and yet sophisticated. Provence is experienced throughout the cuisine in Mirèio through highlighting ingredients rather than technique.
Assorted Bread
Classic Nicoise Salad
French beans, hardboiled egg, tuna, baby potatoes
Vegetable Tart, Pesto
seasonal vegetables, mustard, pesto
Cold Cut Platter
chorizo, dry sausage, homemade terrines, mustard
Spring Vegetables Salad
bell pepper, zucchini, mushroom confit, sardines dressing
Trouchia Nissa Pilo
omelet cake, potato, zucchini, black olive, garlic
Mireio's appetizer selection was spot on! It may have been mostly salad and vegetarian options, but I loved everything, especially the Trouchia Nissa Pilo!
Rolled Pork Loin with Thyme and Garlic
Roasted Chicken with Herbs
Grilled Sirloin Steak
Pan-seared Salmon
To tell you the truth, we were disappointed when the main course came out because they were each laid out on huge, very plain white plates. Imagine a chunk of meat on a plate, that's it. I guess we expected there to be some kind of presentation to them being that everything has been posh and fancy so far. The sides and sauces were brought out on separate bowls too. It definitely brought our excitement a few notches down, especially since the flavors weren't all that special either. I honestly enjoyed the appetizers, cheese, and dessert buffet more.
I did like how, during the course of the meal, they gave us two shots to drink - a healthy shot made up of carrots, orange, and pineapple, and a smoothie shot with raspberry and apple. I thought that was a nice surprise to have on a Sunday afternoon. And they were really good too!
Moving on, here's a look at Mireio's cheese and dessert buffet!
Assorted Cheeses
Dried Fruits and Nuts
Chocolate Cake with Strawberry Jam
Vanilla Raspberry Mille Crepe
Apricot and Thyme Macaron / Coffee Cream Puff
Strawberry Blueberry Mille Feuille
Lemon Meringue Tartlet / Tropezienne Tartlet
Cap off your visit with some crepes and ice cream!
