A very merry KTG Christmas spent at Mango Tree BGC!
The KTG celebrated Christmas early this year at Mango Tree in Bonifacio High Street. It is one of the few restaurants here in Manila that offer authentic Thai cuisine and I'm glad to have spent time with my KTG family there this season.
Since the event was at BGC, I decided to drive there early to avoid traffic. Being the first one to arrive at Mango Tree, I took the opportunity to snap some photos of the interiors. I was surprised to see how huge this branch is compared to Mango Tree Bistro, which so happens to be one of my family's favorite restaurants in Trinoma.

For our lunch, Mango Tree prepared a feast for us consisting of items from their menu and their special Holiday Selections!
First up we had the Tod Mun Goong (P420) which is deep fried shrimp cakes served with sweet chili sauce. I like how these didn't come out oily even though they were deep-fried. They're perfectly cooked to a golden crisp - a great dish to start your meal with!
Another dish to try is the See Krong Moo Yang Nam Phung or the Grilled Honey Spare Ribs (P550).
I love how they've included both the English and Thai names of the dishes, so ordering is not a struggle, but you can still learn how to pronounce each one while waiting for your food.
The Chicken Satay (P380), of course, had to be part of our lunch. After all, it is one of their bestsellers.
But one of my ultimate favorites is their Tom Yum soup. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of it, since our food was served buffet style, but trust me when I say that theirs is the absolute best! It is a spicy hot and sour soup with mixed seafood, lemongrass, kaffir lime, galangal, mushrooms, and red chiles. It might be hard to understand what it tastes like right now, so imagine eating a spicy sinigang instead. I swear, if you're a fan of sinigang, you will definitely like Tom Yum as well!
For Mango Tree's Holiday Selections, we had the Fried Seabass with Tamarind Sauce, Garden Salad in Som Tum Sauce with Chicken Wings, Homok Seafood Curry in Coconut, Wang Bean with Fried Onion, and Sweet Potato Custard.
Fried Seabass with Tamarind Sauce
fried seabass topped with pineapple and cherry tomatoes mixed with tamarind sauce
Garden Salad in Som Tum Sauce with Chicken Wings
mixed vegetables drizzled with "som tum" dressing, a blend of dried shrimp paste, fish sauce, lime and palm sugar for a balance of sweet and sour goodness, served with crispy chicken wings on the side for added texture
Homok Seafood Curry in Coconut
mixed seafood in creamy red curry sauce served on a coconut shell
Wang Bean with Fried Onion
taro custard with coconut cream topped with fried red onions
Sweet Potato Custard
sweet potato blended with coconut cream for a light sweet flavor and soft texture
Before the meal began, I told myself I would only try a bit of each dish since Mango Tree was only the first of three restaurants we would be visiting that day. But I ended up getting second and third servings of the Homok Seafood Curry and the Garden Salad in Som Tum Sauce (I didn't even bother with the chicken! Ako na ang healthy! Haha!) But seriously, I love Thai food and I love how Mango Tree served us healthy-ish dishes that afternoon. Nothing was too sinful, so I didn't feel as bad as I normally would when I end up eating too much. Hihi.
I hope everyone's enjoying their Christmas break! Let's take the time to sit down with family and friends this season. Go offline, meet for coffee, tell stories, laugh, eat loads, and get fat together! Haha! Happy Holidays!
