Date nights call for special meals, and what better way to spend it at Kettle in Shangri-La Plaza. Looking back, I'm actually glad we missed the Japanese film festival and decided to catch the last full show of the Minions movie instead, at least we had ample time to walk around and try out a new restaurant.
Well, it's not exactly new since it recently opened its third branch in Eastwood (first in Shangri-La, second in SM Aura), but it is new for me. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the buttermilk chicken (apparently, it's their best bestseller haha), but the dishes we ordered weren't so bad either.
Clam Chowder (P259)
served on a sourdough bread bowl
Creamy, but not thick enough for me. I can’t help but compare it to S&R’s clam chowder which is cheaper and thicker, though served in a paper cup. The bread bowl it came in absorbed some of the soup, which is both a good and bad thing. Good because it made the bread yummier; bad because there was less soup to eat, not that there was even a lot to begin with. It was filled with the usuals – clams, potatoes, carrots, and celery - I just wish they offered bigger servings (or maybe an option to serve it in a real bowl instead for a cheaper price).
Chorizo Gambas (P489)
olive oil, garlic shrimps, sauteed chorizo, banana peppers, lemon
Large enough for two persons to share. The chorizo had a stronger flavor compared to the shrimp, but I would say they complement each other well; a winning combo.
Australian Lamb Adobo (P499)
slow cooked adobo style, tzaziki, truffled mushroom brown rice
Not a huge fan of lamb because of the aftertaste, but the meat was really tender. Best to eat this while it’s still warm as the meat gets harder the longer you wait. Also, props to Kettle for successfully making brown rice delicious with the help of truffle oil ;)
Miso Glazed Salmon (P589)
pan fried Norwegian salmon, marinated cold soba noodles, mango cilantro salsa
Fresh salmon on top of soba noodles with a hint of roasted sesame, something I’ve never tried before. Get the most out of the dish by eating all three elements together (fish, salsa, and soba). The noodles didn’t actually taste like regular cold soba, but that just made me like it even more.
I think my main problem here is that the price is a bit too high for its serving size, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with other diners. We were at Kettle for an hour and a half and it was full the entire time, plus people were still lining up to eat even after 9pm. So yeah, check them out when you're in the area!
