Morita Japanese Restaurant

Morita
Fishing magnate Roberto Simeon del Rosario and his family opens a Japanese restaurant in Fisher Mall to honor the late Tomiya Morita - a long-standing business associate and friend of the Del Rosario family who owns Irma Fishing and Trading (the country’s biggest commercial fishing firm which supplies fresh catch to local and international market, and Fisher Mall). Morita’s boats allowed the family to run and expand their fishing business to what it is today. (Philstar)

Celebrated my sister's birthday at Morita last week with the family. It was their first time there (my second) so I'm really glad they enjoyed the food. Since the restaurant is closed from 2pm to 6pm, I was half-expecting the staff to make us wait outside when we arrived three minutes early. Fortunately, they didn't (or else, my dad would've been pissed). Haha :P

My previous visit to Morita was for lunch, but let me tell you, come here for dinner! The place looks prettier at night. :)

Once we got seated, we all went a little crazy and ordered the first thing we saw because we were already famished!

My dad started with his favorite - the Uni Sushi (P189).
Morita
While he feasted on that, we enjoyed the Crazy Roll (P188). We ended up getting two orders of this because it's that good :D

By the way, how do you like your dipping sauce? With lots of wasabi or just a little? My ratio of soy sauce to wasabi would probably be 6:1. I just put wasabi to make the sauce less salty.

Next is my mom's pick - the Dynamite Roll (P269). Good thing there were five pieces, one for each of us, so we all got to try it. I'd advise laying off the wasabi on this one though since it's already spicy.

My sister usually just eats whatever we order, but this time, she saw something she couldn't pass up - Bacon Croquettes (P160)! Potato croquettes mixed with crispy bacon bits, served with tonkatsu sauce - I liked it, but then again, who wouldn't?
Morita
Sometimes I wonder if I'm really part of this family because everyone likes vegetables except for me. :P

Here's the Nasu Abura (P130) - sauteed eggplant with special sweet sauce.
Morita
And the Okura Goma Ae (P85) - boiled okra with sesame seeds with goma oe sauce.
Morita
The boys in the family have a soft spot for uni, so aside from the Uni Sushi, they also ordered the Uni Tempura (P295).

Since we were celebrating a birthday, my mom wanted us to order noodles, so we went with their Zaru Soba (P185).
Morita
My mom didn't like it, but everyone else did. I kind of like Cathay Pacific's version better though.. Hmm.MoritaMorita
At first glance, the two photos above might look the same but they're not. The first one is the Gezo Namban (deep fried squid tentacles with curry taste), while the latter is the Gezo Karaage (crispy squid tentacles served with special ponzu sauce). They didn't really taste that different so I just dipped them in the same sauce. Both priced at P150.

The Yasai Tempura (P149) was pretty fun since we tried guessing what vegetable was in each piece. I lost, of course. Haha!

Here's a look at their Tekka Maki (P148) for all you tuna lovers out there. Remember to order lots of seafood at Morita because it's not everyday you get to eat at a Japanese restaurant owned by a fishing magnate (clue: fresh seafood!) ;)

Finally, the last dish of the night, the Kaki Gyuniku Steak (P395) - tenderloin steak with strips of bacon and sauteed oysters served with Chef's special sauce. The meat is tender and the oysters aren't malansa at all.

P.S. It's not mentioned in the description, but the Kaki Gyuniku Steak also has straw mushrooms, so yay! :D

We'll be back soon, Morita! :)

Thank you to my parents for the great meal! Your kiddos left with happy tummies that night! :)

Morita Japanese Restaurant is located at the upper basement of Fisher Mall
(you can go through the entrance near Seattle's Best or from Roosevelt Avenue)
