Carve and Print Workshop by Life After Breakfast

Carve and Print Workshop
To celebrate her fifth year, Alessa Lanot of Life After Breakfast held free rubber stamp carving workshops last week at Pipino!

During the two-hour workshop, we did a round of introductions and got to know not only Alessa but also our workshop buddies. I found that I had a lot in common with my tablemates Thea, Shei, and Rocel. Lots of "oohhs" and "aaahhs" came from the room when Alessa started talking about the basics of rubber stamp carving and ended with her giving a live demo.

Soon after, we were asked to come up with our design/s for our stamps, draw them on tracing paper, and transfer them on the 2x2 carving blocks. Alessa made the entire process look so easy, but it wasn't! We all had our struggles - some couldn't think of a design, some struggled to draw, some found it difficult to carve the stamp. I guess it takes a whole lot of practice, but overall, I was really happy with how my stamp turned out. The only thing we really had to worry about was cutting ourselves. Good thing Alessa gave tips on how to properly hold the carving block and cutter to avoid any accidents.

Alessa even set up a stamp-printing station so we could try out our stamps and borrow some of hers, too. We were encouraged to bring our own items to stamp on, but there were blank totebags, notecards, and notebooks for sale at the event, as well.

Here's what I ended up making:

Yep, it's a camera stamp! It really wasn't a hard choice. I am a sucker for cameras and I love photography so I already knew what I was making days before the event. I definitely struggled with the carving part; I thought it'd be easy, but I was actually the last to finish at our table! Haha!

Thank you, Alessa, for sharing your craft and the fun afternoon of learning! Will carve more stamps soon! :)
