Old Swiss Inn, Makati City

How often do you find a restaurant that offers both Swiss and European cuisines? I know it's not all that common in the Philippines, so when you find yourself craving for sausages, raclette, and fondue, you'll be glad that such a place exists and it's called Old Swiss Inn.

To tell you the truth, I only heard about it recently, but Old Swiss Inn has actually been around for over 70 years. It first opened its doors along Roxas Boulevard, but now they have branches at Somerset Olympia Building (beside Peninsula Hotel) and Garden Plaza Hotel & Suites in Paco, Manila.

During our visit, we tried everything from soup, appetizer, main course, and of course, dessert.

To start, we had the Goulash Soup (Php 298), Old Swiss Inn's hearty soup spiced with lashings of beef and vegetables.

Finished this one to the very last drop. It's very similar to minestrone but lighter since it doesn't have rice nor pasta in it. It's definitely a great start to the meal if you're looking for something to warm your tummy.

Like cheese? The Smoked Scamorza is a dish you shouldn't miss. It's a lot similiar to Swiss Raclette but with an additional smokiness that gives the cheese more flavor.

And since we also ordered two things off of their raclette grill menu, I really got to compare both cheeses and I'd have to say, I enjoyed the Smoked Scamorza a lot more. Below are the Wagyu Skewers set and La Parisienne (raclette cheese, seared beef tenderloin, fresh mushrooms, potatoes, and assorted vegetables for Php 1,190)

Wagyu Skewers (Php 1,490)
raclette cheese, wagyu beef and cherry tomato skewers, fresh mushrooms, and assorted vegetables

La Parisienne (Php 1,190)
raclette cheese, seared beef tenderloin, fresh mushrooms, potatoes, and assorted vegetables

The Sausage Platter also comes highly recommended, and I must agree.

This one includes Schublig, Veal, Hungarian, and Pork for only Php 1,505. Choose from Roesti, Potato Salad, or Potato Leek Stew for your sidings. The group finished this pretty fast so I guess that just shows how good this is? Yeah? Don't forget to order this one, guys!

Finally, onto the mains! We went for some old time favorites namely the Corned Beef, Gnagi, and Roast Angus Beef Belly.

Old Swiss Inn makes their own Corned Beef (Php 690) which they serve with sautéed cabbage and boiled potatoes. I don't know what it is about their potatoes, but they're damn good.

The Gnagi (Php 768) is a lot similar to crispy pata - cured pork knuckles baked to a crispy golden brown and served with the same sides as above.

If that's not enough meat, we also ordered the Roast Angus Beef Belly, which they sliced right beside our table.
To finish off our wonderful lunch, we had their Chocolate S'mores (Php 545) where they use Toblerone for the milk chocolate fondue. It was a bit too sweet for my liking, but you can definitely tell they use real Toblerone for this one.
There are still a ton of dishes I'd love to try at Old Swiss Inn, so I'm hoping to visit it again soon (hopefully with Tim next time). If you find yourself in Makati, check out Old Swiss Inn located at Somerset Olympia Building! ;)
