Crisp on 28th

Crisp on 28th
Guess who got to try one of Erwan Heussaff's restaurants a few weeks back?

Crisp on 28th opened just last August at the ground floor of the Alveo Corporate Center along (yes, you've guessed it) 28th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. This makes restaurant number three for Erwan and his partners, and from the looks of it, they're off to a good start!

The ambiance is relaxing; not too formal, but not too casual, either. It's a place where you can see people working on their laptops, chitchatting with friends, or having business meetings with potential clients.

They're open daily from 7am to 11pm so you can come really early for their eggs and toasts, or late for their heavy meals and cocktails.

The seating can be a bit crowded since the tables are placed close to each other, but I don't think it's a huge issue. I even got some reading done while I was there.

Also consider dining al fresco style - if you're not bothered by smoke, that is. It serves as a great hangout place, too.

They have all sorts of cakes and pastries for sale throughout the day. You'll be happy to know that their brownies and breads are sold 50% less from 2pm to 5pm daily. I took advantage of this and bought a Coffee Caramel Brownie and a Revel Bar to bring to work the following day.

Aside from serving usual drinks like coffees, teas and fruit shakes, Crisp on 28th also serves fresh cold-pressed juices for P155 per glass. Below we have the Cucumber, Apple & Mint and the Pineapple & Basil (I totally recommend the latter!).

First, we had the Courtyard Salad (P280 for sharing), which you can have with or without 150 grams of grilled hanger steak for an additional P275 (best served medium rare).

Mixed salad greens, cucumber, French beans, walnuts, broccoli, roasted beets, quail egg, herbed croutons, and country dressing

The Falafel Salad Bites (P280) was a unique treat, since it's not all that commonly served in the Philippines. Crisp created a twist of the Middle Eastern favorite by combining crispy falafel and chickpeas, hawaiian bun, white bean hummus, curried egg mayo, and mixed greens. A healthy alternative to your traditional burgers. ;)

Next, we were served a plate of one of their newest dishes - Adobo Floss. It's liver pate with croutons, except they added this flavorful adobo bits mixed with peanut sauce. I don't usually like anything with liver, but I give this dish a thumbs up.

If you've noticed, their dishes are a mix of Asian and Western. They don't really follow a specific cuisine, but they serve healthier versions of various dishes. The restaurant was named "Crisp" because whenever we say healthy, the first dish we think of are salads, right? Well, salads are usually made of fresh, crispy, and healthy ingredients, so I guess that's the perfect word to describe them. Also, almost all of Crisp's dishes come with a side salad.

For example, check out this Longga Plate (P280). It's their homemade vigan longganisa with garlic brown rice, sunny side up, and seared tomato. One of our favorites from the night. It's three bite-sized pieces of longganisa, but who cares? This is definitely worth trying!

Another bestseller is the Roasted Sambal Chicken Thighs (P385).

Brown dirty rice, picked cucumbers, and fried okra in sambal sauce

Their Smoked Salmon Open Toast (P450) is served with capers, tamyao, cream cheese, mixed salad greens, and poached egg. Ugh, who would've thought cream cheese and salmon would go so well together? Best eaten with little bits of everything at once.

I guess this is the not-so-healthy part because for dessert, we had a slice of their Pumpkin Cheesecake (P210). You might find yourself on an endless search for that distinct pumpkin flavor, but you won't find it. Instead, savor every bite and accept that there really is a vegetable somewhere in there. Haha.

Lastly, we got to try a plate of their Donut Bites (P35 each). My favorites are the Brown Sugar (the plain one on top) which reminded me of Krispy Kreme's original glazed donut and the Banana Cream (lower right).

Thanks for the great night, guys! :)
