Here's the second event of the Beyond Manila Bites food crawl series: Global Meets Local! The event was held at UP Town Center where we featured EIGHT of the metro's international and local best comfort food stores!
Last August 13, 2016, Global Meets Local brought together people from different fields of the food industry and other influencers for a whole day food celebration at UP Town Center! Through this series, ForkSpoonManila (Alexis Manuel Deocaris) overhauled the traditional food crawl where the media and influencers can share their experiences and impressions regarding the food, through of course, social media. During the event, we not only got to socialize with each other, but more importantly, we met a lot of the people behind these restaurants and discovered the stories behind their dishes and store concepts.
For me, the event was also a great way to sharpen my photography skills. Even though people were technically taking pictures of the same dishes, all our photos came out so differently! So yes, I definitely learned a few things from people like Cy Ynares (@thebaldbakerph), Iza Gallego (@iza.gram), Mark and Bianca Tan (@eatsplorations), JP Gonzaga (@chubbyperohappy), and Lucky Alabado (@discovermnl)! Shawarma Bros offers "a different shawarma experience." Since Filipinos are predominantly rice consumers, they decided to offer Shawarma Rice Plates instead of the traditional wraps. Unlike other shawarma stalls, Shawarma Bros uses Biryani rice instead of just plain rice, include lamb in their menu and have three different kinds of sauces like the Cheese and Chili Tomato. To complement the Persian taste, they even created their own version of a mango salsa. The combination of flavors that Shawarma Bros offers have been well-received by Filipinos all over. Would you believe they only started as a food truck and now they have two branches - BGC Stopover and UP Town Center!

Personally, I loved the chicken and lamb the most, but I highly recommend you try them all when you visit! :)
