DIY Two-toned Marbled Mugs

DIY Marbled Mugs

When I joined my first Pursuit Manila gathering last month, the theme was Made with Love. We were tasked to bring three items that we have created (with love) to give to three ladies at the event.
Majority of the women who are part of the Pursuit Community are creatives, so it's no surprise that they'd have us do something like this. Unfortunately for them, I'm not a very creative person; I wish I were, but I'm not. There are so many DIY projects I want to get my hands on, but I know I'll fail if I try, so why even bother. I know, I know, it's such a negative way to look at things - but don't worry, I haven't completely given up yet. I still research random DIYs and recipes to try out, and recently, I've been finding myself actually making them. Take for example, my tablea brownies and this colorful memo board

I'm really proud of myself for not giving up on these mugs. I reached a point where I just wanted to add random inspirational quotes on my travel photos, frame them, and I'm done! But that would have been too easy. I told myself I would put effort into these gifts. Since the other women were working hard on theirs, I needed to do the same with mine. And guess what, after more tries than I can count and a whole lot of mess, I finished my three mugs. Sure, it took me a while, but at least I can honestly say that I made them with love.

Things you'll need:
A plain mug, nail polish, some toothpicks, a plastic tub, and warm water

Added note: I bought these nail polishes specifically for this project, and as you can see, I ended up using one-thirds of the purple polish because it took me a lot of trial and error to get these mugs done. The tutorials I found online made them seem really easy. Maybe I was doing it wrong, or maybe it was in the quality of the polish used; all I can say is, I poured my heart into this project and I'm hella proud of it.

Steps:
1. Put just enough warm water in your tub so you can dip about half of the mug into it
2. Pour a few drops of nail polish. Use one or two colors, it's up to you!
3. Create the marbled effect by swirling the polish with a toothpick. Better move quick though - the polish becomes a thin film when left too long, so you'll have to restart the process.
4. Dip your mug straight down into the tub
5. Lift it up and you're done!

Note: I would advise not getting any nail polish on the rim of your mugs since they often contain chemicals that are not safe for eating.

That's it! Happy DIY-ing! :)
